Towns to Visit Around Camping els Roures

CAMPRODON

6.8 KM away

Camprodon is one of those Catalan towns worth visiting at least once in a lifetime. It is famous for its cured meats such as Bull negre, Bull blanc, longaniza, and the renowned fuet de Camprodon, as well as the famous Birba cookies. You’ve probably tasted them before! While strolling through the historic center, you can also find the house where Isaac Albéniz was born, along with some incredible Romanesque churches and monasteries.

The municipality of Camprodon is one of the largest in the valley, thanks to the annexation of the areas of Freixenet, the Estebanell colony, and the picturesque villages of Rocabruna and Beget. Tourism has been present in Camprodon since the early 19th century, with the arrival of the first hikers and prominent members of the Barcelona bourgeoisie.

Monastery of Sant Pere de Camprodon

While strolling through Camprodon, you’ll come across the Monastery of Sant Pere, founded by Guifré II, Count of Besalú, in the mid-10th century. Today, only the church remains to be seen, as the cloister was destroyed in 1460, and by the 17th century, the monastery was in such poor condition that the eight monks and the abbot had to live in private homes. During the 20th century, the monastic buildings were demolished, and the church was restored. The church dates back to the 12th century, featuring a Latin cross floor plan. It has a single nave, covered with a slightly pointed barrel vault, reinforced by transverse arches. The five rectangular apses are noteworthy, four of which are located in the transept and are indistinguishable from the exterior.

SANT JOAN DE LES ABADESSES

8 KM away

The town of Sant Joan de les Abadesses is a must-visit when you’re near the area. The town is located in the center of a pre-Pyrenean valley, crossed by the Ter River from east to west and surrounded by high mountains.

At Camping els Roures, we offer special discounts for guests who wish to visit the Interpretation Center of the Myth of Count Arnau (15% discount).

SETCASES

17 KM away

Setcases is a picturesque village, with houses, streets, and alleys made of stone, carefully restored to preserve their traditional charm. This ancient rural settlement has become one of the most popular tourist spots in the region, thanks to its proximity to the Vallter 2000 ski slopes and the spectacular nature of its surroundings.

A privileged natural and scenic environment, a wide range of gastronomic and hotel offerings, a rural and tranquil atmosphere, the Vallter 2000 ski resort, and the warm welcome from its residents have made Setcases a renowned and prestigious tourist destination.

BEGET

24 KM away

The heart of Beget is its main charm. Highlights include the Romanesque church of Sant Cristòfol with the Majestat in the main altar’s altarpiece and the clock tower. Additionally, its bridges are well worth admiring.

Suggestions:

If you visit Beget in summer, during warm weather, don’t miss the Beget gorges. These are three large natural pools located on the outskirts of the village, towards Oix, along the Salarsa stream. A refreshing dip in these gorges will make your visit an unforgettable experience. Additionally, hiking on some of its trails will be a fantastic activity.

LLANARS

8.3 KM away

Enjoy a unique, open, and sunny landscape. The village of Llanars is the central hub of the municipality, which also includes the hamlets of Llanarès and Espinauga, as well as the farmsteads of Feitús and Riberal de Feitús.

The parish church of Sant Esteve is located in the heart of the urban center. The oldest houses, located on the north side of the church, form narrow and short streets, without following a symmetrical layout.

Currently, Llanars is undoubtedly one of the municipalities in Ripollès with the most urban growth.
